A major trend in interior décor today is biophilic design, stemming from the biophilia hypothesis, which suggests humans have an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Because many of us spend our days inside at a desk – by a window, if you’re lucky – this design trend aims to bring the outside in, whether that’s with living plants, large windows as sources of natural light, or graphics designed with vibrant, warm colors.

Resimercial TransformationTo pair with biophilic design is “resimercial:” a residential look and feel to a commercial space. Michael Elrod, Czarnowski’s general manager, believes it has “significant upside potential for a new generation and for large-format print providers looking to capitalize on the growing interior design production opportunities.”

Take Czarnowski’s work for a corporate office interior, for example. “The idea was to remake a space using printed graphics in a more subtle way to help create a comfortable, calm space as opposed to the normal corporate branding or advertising interior graphics,” Elrod says. “A space that feels like home.”

Resimercial TransformationThe digitally printed space includes “wooden” floor graphics, textured wallcoverings, wood-patterned vinyl-wrapped counter tops, and three SEG backlit fabrics attached to custom recessed light boxes with real replacement windows. “The replacement windows are easily removed so the printed fabric graphics can be changed out with different seasons or any desired images,” he adds.

“The immediate calming, comfortable, relaxing mood is the very first thing you notice when you walk into the office,” says Elrod. “It’s a very different feeling from the usual corporate office. It’s simply a more pleasant space to work and meet.”
