Biographics from Pace Industries

A sheet and roll product with a starch base.

Big Picture

Pace Industries has developed several green materials that are compatible with wide-format inkjet printing: Absolve and Biographics.

Biographics is a sheet and roll product that starts with an agricultural based starch (non-petroleum). Biographics features high heat resistance and impact strength, and good ink receptivity, Pace reports. The matte-finished white Biographics is available in 10- to 40-pt gauges, and sheet sizes up to 50 x 96-in. and rolls up to 50-in. wide. It's compatible with solvent and UV-curable printing, as well as litho and screen printing. Further, Biographics is certified through an independent laboratory as compostable per ASTM 6400-04, meaning it will biodegrade (return to its basic organic elements). Minimum orders are 2500 lb.

The Absolve family includes modified polystyrene, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Pace reports that these engineered materials look, feel, and process like standard polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene. PS-Absolve is a polystyrene material that is compatible with mild-solvent, solvent, and UV-curable inksets, is available in 0.01- to 0.185-in.-thick sheets and rolls, and has a minimum order of 1000 lb. Additionally, PS-Absolve incorporates a polymer technology to facilitate the degradation in litter form, commercial or residential compost, as well as in landfill disposal.

Note: Pace also has a Customer Recycling Program to allow customers the opportunity to return packaging materials as well as plastic scrap.
