New poster printers feature CMYK + matte black + red inkset.

Big Picture

Canon USA has announced its new SE Series imageProGraf lineup, comprising the 6-color 44-in. iPF8400SE printer and 24-in. iPF6400SE printer.

The new printers are designed for the poster and infographics markets, and feature a 6-color Lucia EX pigment inkset – CMYK + matte black + red – that has been engineered to allow for a color-gamut expansion beyond Canon’s 8-color models in the yellow to red regions, the company reports – particularly useful in producing eye-catching posters. The Lucia EX inks boast added durability and scratch-resistance.

Additional features on the new printers include:
• Hot-swap ink tanks, allowing the inks to be changed while a job is in progress.
• An Economy Printing mode, to cut ink consumption by 50 percent.
• Layout nesting feature, for placement of multiple print jobs on one sheet of media.
• PosterArtist Lite, Canon Printer Driver, and Direct Print & Share software.

Top resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi, both models.

MSRP: $2495 for the iPF6400SE printer; $4495 for the iPF8400SE printer.

Canon also has announced the addition of a new Heavyweight Coated Paper HG, 145gsm to its large-format media lineup. This new media transitions Canon’s heavyweight coated offering from 140gsm to 145gsm.
