New Media from Canon

Plus: PosterArtist software now has the capability to support 64-bit operating systems.

Big Picture

Canon USA has released two new media for use with its imageProGraf wide-format printers: Premium Glossy Paper 2 and Premium Semi-Glossy Paper 2. Both papers are 280-gsm, and are available in roll sizes of 17-, 24-, 36-, and 42-in. wide.

Premium Glossy Paper 2 is a heavyweight glossy media for a variety of applications including photographic, graphic arts, and signage. The paper offers a high whiteness factor through the use of ultra white pulp that makes the media less susceptible to light illuminant changes.

Premium Semi-Glossy Paper 2 is a heavyweight slightly textured semi-gloss paper. This media has a similar whiteness as Glossy Paper 2, but a softer finish and less reflection better suited to applications such as fine-art photographic reproductions and exhibitions.

Canon also has announced that it will now offer select Canon Specialty Media products with certification from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), including Canon Tabs and Coated Two-Sided Media. To achieve SFI certification, each media type must contain fibers that come from a responsibly managed forest.

The latest version of Canon’s PosterArtist poster creation software now has the capability to support 64-bit operating systems in addition to an expanded image library that includes new images and templates for users to choose from. The output devices supported by the software has also been expanded to include limited support and functionality of Océ wide-format printers, Pixma photo printers, and imageRunner series printers along with the imageProGraf models supported by previous versions. MSRP: $799.
