OnOne Software Releases Free Genuine Fractals Reader

Allows Photoshop users to view .STN files

Big Picture

OnOne Software is making available a complimentary Genuine Fractals Reader plug-in for Adobe Photoshop. The plugin allows any user of Photoshop CS or CS2 to open and view an image that was scaled using earlier versions of Genuine Fractals and saved with the proprietary .STN file extension.

Beginning with Genuine Fractals 4.1, released in October 2005, using the image-scaling plug-in no longer requires saving files in .STN file format prior to using the plug-in; instead, users can just open an 8- or 16-bit RGB or CMYK image in Photoshop and scale it via Genuine Fractals 4.1. Users still have the option to use the .STN file format, however, because saving as .STN allows them to get a smaller file while retaining a high resolution, OnOne Software reports. OnOne purchased Genuine Fractals from Celartem in mid-2005.
