Roland Rolls Out New VersaCamm Printer/Cutters
Machines offer 4-color printing with resolutions up to 1440 dpi.
Roland has introduced two more printer/cutters-the 30-in. VersaCamm VP-300 and 54-in. VersaCamm VP-540. Both VersaCamm machines utilize Roland Eco-Sol Max inks (in 220- or 440-cc cartridges), and offer 4-color printing with resolutions up to 1440 dpi. Printing on uncoated PVCs and a wide range of coated substrates from paper to canvas to backlit films, the inks offer superior scratch-resistance and a 3-yr outdoor durability.
With new media flanges and additional pinch rollers to secure heavy media, the VP-300/540 is capable of handling rolls up to 44/60 lb, and accepts a maximum print substrate thickness of 1.0 mm; maximum cutting thickness is 0.4 mm. The print speed tops out at 166 sq ft/hr for the VP-540 and at 124 sq ft/hr for the VP-300 in billboard mode; in high-quality mode, print speeds reach 27/21 sq ft/hr.
On the cutting side, the all-in-one print/cut system does not need registration or crop marks, and allows for unattended printing/cutting. The VersaCamm is also equipped with Roland’s Quadralign 4-point optical-registration system when users remove, laminate, and reload graphics for printing.
Cutting speeds of the swivel-knife blades reach 11.8 in./sec and achieve an 0.1 mm or less repetition accuracy. The blades cut with 30 to 200 g of force.
Other new features of these Versa-Camm printer/cutters include the new VersaWorks 2.2 RIP software, complete with variable-data capabilities; new belt drives, grit rollers, ink dampers, and pumps; an automated cleaning system; and a redesigned LED panel with simplified menu commands. Optional equipment includes a take-up system with a tensioning system to aid in media handling and unattended productivity.
Price: VersaCamm VP-300, $14,995; VersaCamm VP-540, $20,995.
In addition, Roland has announced its new Two-Year Trouble-Free Warranty for all current inkjet printers, with the exception of the VersaCamm SP print/cut models (the SP machines using Eco-Sol Max inks are covered by the company’s 1-yr warranty). This 2-yr warranty covers parts and labor for products registered with the company’s customer-service department and equipped exclusively with Roland inksets.
