Wrap Sheet: Upscale Camo Vinyl

Car Wrap City transforms a 2017 Camaro.

When one 2017 Camaro owner wandered into Car Wrap City’s shop in search of a distinctive wrap design, one look around told him he was in the right place. The Carrollton, Texas-based full-service wrap company has experience with the usual car and truck wraps, but also buses, motorcycles, and high-end vehicles.

“We’re pretty popular with ‘car guys,’” says Billy Gann, production manager. The shop sees its fair share of exotic cars: Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and, yes, a certain Camaro.

This customer wanted an “urban camo look,” so Car Wrap City’s in-house team of designers began crafting a design that would “flow.” “A lot of times when you get to a bumper or fender area, the design may not necessarily line up. It may on the screen – and in theory – but when the installers go to put the vinyl on, it will manipulate and stretch a little,” Gann explains. While abstract graphics without text or logos can be easier to install, design still plays a major role in ensuring the quality of the final product. After some back-and-forth with the client until both sides were satisfied, the shop printed onto Avery Dennison MPI 1105 film with a Mutoh ValueJet 1628X printer. The shop’s installation team of three spent a full day wrapping the entirety of the Camaro – “everything from door jambs to inside the hood a little ways,” Gann adds. “We tend to spend a little bit more time on these cars in particular. We want the wraps to be flawless.”
