1. Amsterdam│ A full-size, 3D-printed house is under construction and is set to be completed within three years. The firm Dus Architects is using an industrial-scale KamerMaker (Room Builder) 3D printer to produce plastic parts that are locked together to form walls, floors, and furniture. The house will have 13 separate rooms, with lightweight concrete providing structural support and insulation.
2. New Zealand│ Restaurant Hell’s Pizza decided to promote its smoked rabbit, pine nuts, cream cheese, and rosemary pizza with a billboard adorned with hundreds of dead rabbit pelts, just in time for the Easter holiday. The tagline read: “Made from real rabbit. Like this billboard.”
3. London │The outside of Tate Modern, an art gallery housing the United Kingdom's collection of modern and contemporary art from 1900 to the present day, has been covered with its largest signage to date for the Matisse Cut-Outs exhibit. Artist Cartlidge Lebene designed the graphics and then had them printed onto vinyl made to stick to the building’s brickwork, and to resemble paintwork after installation.
4. Australia │Digital out-of-home provider oOH! is using a new digital technology, “temperature-parting,” that allows advertisers to change their message based on the local temperature at each location where their digital signage is displayed. Advertiser Unilever is the first to use the technology with its promotion of Magnum ice cream and Lipton Iced Tea products. When the daily maximum forecast temperature exceeds the monthly maximum average in the local area, Unilever’s ads will be on display for the hot (and assumingly parched) passerby.
5. Paris│ Stora Enso Re-board’s French partner Graphik (www.graphik.fr) installed three pop-up shops in Paris for footwear manufacturer Timberland using its Re-board product for display and design purposes, including the semi-life-size creation of the brand’s logo, a tree. Installers completed installation within 14 hours, mostly overnight.
