Canon has introduced its latest professional
digital SLR cameras"?EOS 5D and
EOS-1D Mark II N. Both cameras feature
Picture Style setting simulation controls
for in-camera modifications to color, contrast,
sharpness, and more; Canon's DIGIC
II Image Processor; and a 2.5-in. LCD
screen, viewable at angles up to 170"?.
The 12.8-Mpxl EOS 5D boast a fullframe
CMOS sensor (no conversion is necessary)
and shoots up to 3 frames/sec in
bursts up to 60 JPEG or 17 RAW images. It
also features a nine-point auto-focus (AF)
system with six assist points to help
ensure an even greater degree of focus
accuracy. The camera can record JPEG,
RAW, and RAW+JPEG images on Compact-
Flash cards (type I and II), and file sizes
can reach 4.6 MB (large/fine, 4368 x 2912
pixels). The CMOS sensor provides two
noise-reduction features and a top shutter
speed of 1/8000 sec.
The camera body is constructed of a
magnesium alloy; total weight: 28.6 oz
(body only). The EOS 5D is compatible
with more than 50 Canon EF lenses. Price:

Canon is billing its new EOS-1D Mark II N
as "the world's fastest digital SLR camera."
Designed to replace the EOS-1D Mark II, the
8.2-Mpxl Mark II N features a shooting rate
of 8.5 frames/sec for bursts up to 48 JPEG
images, a start-up time of 0.2 sec, and a
shutter lag time of 55 milliseconds.
The camera also offers: a CMOS sensor
with a 1.3x conversion factor; a 2.5-in. LCD;
and two memory slots"?one for a CompactFlash
(CF) and one for SecureDigital
(SD)"?so photographers can record the
same RAW+JPEG image on separate memory
cards. File formats include DCF 2.0
(Exif 2.21), JPEG, RAW, and RAW+JPEG,
with file sizes reaching 3.2 MB. In addition,
the EOS-1D Mark II N offers shutter speeds
from 1/8000 to 30 sec, plus bulb.
The Camera is compatible with Canon
EF lenses (except EF-S lenses) and features
an all-metal body and chassis (43.2
oz) with weather-resistant construction.
