When historic downtown buildings undergo renovations, the scaffolding and restoration work, along with the protective safety nets, are eyesores. Montreal-based Madigan Communications (www.madigancom.com) has come up with a solution to this problem: wrapping the scaffolding in an image of the finished building. Besides being more pleasing to the eye, this also provides an ideal backdrop for super-wide advertising.

Recently, the facade graphics and graphics advertising Sony’s Bravia HDTV were installed onto the landmark building, The Bay, at Ste Catherine and Union Streets in downtown Montreal.

The print project was managed by Mirabau (www.mirabau.com) and produced by its digital division, Version Image Plus, both in Montreal. The 250,000 square feet of graphics were printed out at 360-dpi resolution on its EFI Vutek 5300 EC using Verseidag 65/35 vinyl mesh. Mirabau’s contracted installers put up the graphics in five sections over a four-month period. During most install periods, up to four cranes and 10 people were required to install the facade and advertising graphics.
