Designtex Acquires Portland Color

The Designtex Group Inc., a Steelcase company, has acquired substantially all of the assets of Portland, Maine-based Slide Works, Inc., which conducts business as Portland Color. The purchase includes Portland Color's lease of its 26,000 square-foot printing facility based in Portland.

Portland Color will become Designtex's Surface Imaging division and Portland Color employees will become Designtex employees, including Andrew Graham, founder of Portland Color. Graham will serve as Designtex's digital surfacing imaging innovation officer.

Portland Color was founded by Graham in 1988. A large-format, digital printing company with roots in the photo-lab industry, it specializes in graphics for retail environments. Portland Color’s imaging equipment includes: an HP XLJet 1500 dye-sublimation printer, HP DesignJet L65500 Latex-based printer, HP FB6100 UV curable flatbed, Roland SolJet Pro IIV dye-sublimation printer, HP Z6100 and Epson Stylus Pro 9600 aqueous printers, and an Océ LightJet 430. Finishing equipment includes: an MGE iCut digital trimmer/router with Kongsberg cutting head, Streibig panel saw, Practix 130 OK heat transfer calendar, AGL 64i roll laminator, Seal Image 600 roll laminator, Juki inline sewing machines, and more.
