BasICColor includes software and sensor
ICS basICColor 2.5 Display? with Instrument is the official name of a new monitor-calibration software/hardware bundle from Integrated Color Solutions (ICS). With an introductory price of $199, the product is designed for digital photographers, graphic designers, and other graphic professionals who need to calibrate and profile their CRT and LCD monitors for greater accuracy in color imaging workflows.
The software offered in this package is the same as that ICS uses to power its Remote Director system, which in January became the first SWOP-certified display-based proofing system.
With Basiccolor software's Active Sensor Selection feature, users can dynamically select any supported instrument from the menu bar. With the Sensor Calibration feature, users can easily calibrate each instrument via a simple routine on the menu bar. With the Projection Profiling feature, software users can completely fill the screen with a selected color patch, then measure it with a separate projection-measurement device.
The monitor sensor included in the Basiccolor package is an emissive colorimeter, supplemented with custom, 16-bit profiling and gamut-compression techniques developed by ICS. According to ICS, the 16-bit profiles are more accurate because they contain a richer description of the monitor color space. The ICS gamut-compression technique enables users to view saturated colors in great detail.
The ICS software and colorimeter package are available for use on Mac OS 9.6 and X and for Windows 98/2000/ME/XP systems. (ICS: www.icscolor.com)
