Based on the company's Displaymaker 72S and 72SR Gator, the MacDermid ColorSpan DisplayMaker 72SI offers several upgrades to those models, including increased print speed, pinch rollers that make it flatbed-ready, and optional roller tables and auxiliary dryers.
The 73-in. DisplayMaker 72SI utilizes 4-color SolaChrome HR solvent-based pigmented inks, which offer 3 to 5 yr outdoor durability. It also features 16 Micro-Quad printheads with a self-cleaning printhead-maintenance system. It features 6 print modes/speed--from 650 sq ft/hr in Billboard mode at 600 x 300 dpi to 100 sq ft/hr in High Quality mode at 600 x 600 dpi. The 72SI turns out 400 sq ft/hr of high-quality, salable prints using its 600 x 300-dpi Production mode, reports ColorSpan.
The 72SI is rollfed and can print on a variety of uncoated media. However, it can also be changed into a flatbed with the addition of optional roller tables, which allow it to accommodate uncoated rigid media up to 60 in. long and "? in. thick. Two additional tables can be added for media up to 120 in. long.
The printer also features an Advanced Automation Eye--comprising a high-resolution imaging sensor, colorimetric photodiode, and embedded software"?which automates setup and calibration steps for best print quality. The Automation Eye allows for: automatic edge detection, to aid in the loading of rigid materials; color profiling and linearization, using the 72SI's onboard spectrophotometer; and more.
