Mimaki has released its JV3-130SPII, a 54-in. solvent printer that has several interesting options. Users can change the settings from the front panel and choose between a 4- color, 6-color (CMYKcm) or 7-color (CMYKcm+W) print modes, as well as choices of inks"?Mimaki's standard inks, SS-2 (includes white), ES-3 eco-solvent, or HS-1 rugged solvent inks (see June 2005, p. 27, and November 2005, p. 19, for ink details). Customers are not locked into one inkset at time of purchase; instead, they can switch between inksets by using wash cartridges. Inks are available in 220-ml cartridges.
Designed for the sign, banner, and screen-printing markets, the 4-head JV3-130SPII offers speeds up to 478 sq ft/hr at 360 x 360 dpi (with 4-color option: 360 nozzles/color; with 7-color option: 180 nozzles/color) and six print modes up to 1440 x 1440 dpi. Inks last for up to 3 yr outdoor without lamination, reports Mimaki, and can be used for demanding interior displays.
In addition, the JV3-130SPII offers an automatic take-up device, an enhanced intelligent heater, drying fan, improved platen for smoother media handling, automatic cleaning features, and selectable head heights of 2 or 3 mm.
Price: $19,995, with starter set of inks, Raster Link Pro II RIP, and Mimaki Profile Master profiling software. The JV3-130SPII can also be packaged with Mimaki's CG-130FX cutting plotter (printer and cutter package price: $25,960).
