In late November 2013, Inca Digital announced the launch of the next scaleable-architecture platform for the Onset UV printer. In a press event in Cambridge in the UK, Inca and distribution partner Fujifilm explained how its new Onset Scaleable Architecture will use a modular design, developed by Inca, enabling Onset users to evolve the productivity/color specifications of their printers onsite to match their budget and changing business needs.

The company simultaneously announced the commercial launch of the first Onset printer to be developed with this architecture: the new high-productivity Onset S50i UV flatbed.

The new Onset Scaleable Architecture allows print providers to convert quality, speed, and ink options as needed. So, for example, a company with a 4-color, manual, 3229 sqft/hr, or a 6-color, semi-automatic, 6028 sq ft/hr printer can add and swap colors up to a total of 8 in a variety of combinations, including lights and whites; speeds can also be boosted in increments up to a maximum 7803 sq ft/hr as print volumes grow. In addition, Inca reports, the new design will allow the company to streamline manufacturing and reduce lead times in building and delivering new product.

All of the Inca printers with the new architecture feature Fujifilm Uvijet inks developed specifically for Inca printers. Other features include: iNozzle mapping, a 15-zone vacuum table; a UV sensor system to monitor printer condition; substrate-height detectors; Inca’s variable-data Print Run Controller software module; ReporterPro software; and more.

Specific features of the new Onset S50i: dual-CMYK print engine and 27-pL drop size; top speed of 7803 sq ft/hr (4-pass, satin, bidirectional); max. print area of 63 x 123.6 in. and accommodating media up to 2-in. thick (0.71-in. in auto mode). Top resolution is 600 dpi.

“Onset Scaleable Architecture is a dynamic ‘future-proof’ technology that protects a company’s investment for the long term and provides a highly flexible production center that can grow and change with them,” says John Mills, Inca CEO.

And says Tudor Morgan, systems marketing manager, Fujifilm Speciality Ink Systems: “It’s no longer about buying an ‘off-the-shelf’ product. Businesses can now choose a wide-format printer with a genuinely upgradeable solution knowing it can change with them as their needs evolve, which has never really been practical in the industry before.”
