(February 2005) posted on Mon Feb 07, 2005

Offers VersaWorks software RIP

The eco-solvent printer/cutter family from
Roland just got larger"?the new VersaCAMM
SP-540V accepts media up to 54
in. wide and can print graphics up to 114
sq ft/hr with a 360 x 720 dpi billboardprinting
mode.

"At 54 in. wide, the new SP-540V will
open up even more possibilities for graphics
production," said Ken VanHorn, Roland
DGA product manager. "Graphics professionals
will be able to quickly print and
cut durable full-size banners and vehicle
wraps on uncoated media."

Like the other VersaCamm printer/cutters,
the SP-540V uses Eco-SOL ink, which
Roland claims will aggressively bond to
both uncoated and coated media. The
inks offer water-, scratch-, and UV-resistance
for up to 3 years outdoors and come
in 220-ml no-mess cartridges.

The SP-540V also offers a new software
RIP, VersaWorks. Built upon the Adobe Post-
Script CPSI 3016 engine, VersaWorks supports
true Adobe PostScript 3 and includes
color-management tools, a graphical interface,
ICC profiles, layout tools (such as
nesting and tiling) and an automatic
update feature.

As an integrated printer/cutter, the
VersaCamm can automatically contourcut
printed graphics without reloading
or repositioning them. To laminate
graphics, users remove
prints, laminate, and then
reload them for precision cutting.
The Quadralign four-point
optical-registration system
automatically realigns the cutting
path and compensates for
skew and distortion. The VersaCamm
also functions as a
stand-alone vinyl cutter.

Suggested list price:
$18,995. (Roland DGA: www.rolanddga.com)
