And introduces three wide-format media selection tools.

Xerox has upgraded the servers/RIPs for its wide-format 8160 and 8142 printers. The improved wide-format color server/RIPs allow print providers to: preview color changes prior to printing; position or rotate images for most efficient paper usage; save job setting for a later use; integrate the 8160/8142 more easily with other wide-format equipment; and ensure color accuracy using pre-programmed profiles.

The Color Workstation RIP is an entry-level RIP solution for the single-workstation environment, which prints directly from popular applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and QuarkXPress. Color Server RIP is a client-server RIP solution for networks and large production environments, and includes features such as job priority, job nesting, tiling, and spot-color mapping. The Color Server RIP Pro extends the features of the standard Color Server RIP by including an editor station for layout design as well as an ICC-profile generation wizard.

Prices: Color Workstation RIP, $1195; Color Server RIP, $3495; Color Server RIP Pro, $4995.

In addition, Xerox has introduced three wide-format media selection tools. The Wide-Format Swatchbook includes samples, product specs, and machine compatibilities of Xerox graphic-arts inkjet media. The Wide-Format Inkjet Media Online Selector is available at Xerox's website and matches the ink and media to the application. The Wide-Format Paper and Specialty Media Display Graphics Applications Guide covers the durability of graphics and how each paper handles image quality, as well as application ideas.
