(Berlin) callas software, leader in PDF technology for publishing, print production and document archiving, is delighted to announce the release of pdfaPilot version 3. The new release brings full support for the new PDF/A-3 standard announced for 2012, making it possible to archive the original document (such as Word, Excel, XML…) into the PDF/A file. Integration with Microsoft SharePoint facilitates the creation of PDF/A files in larger office environments and guaranteed PDF/A conversion utilizes advanced processing methods to convert virtually any PDF file to PDF/A. For high-volume environments, pdfaPilot Server can now be installed as a Windows service and load balancing between different pdfaPilot Servers instantly enables unlimited processing power.
Archiving native documents
pdfaPilot 3 already has support for the upcoming PDF/A-3 standard, expected to be released early 2012. This new part of the PDF/A standard brings with it the possibility to store any file – even non-PDF files – into PDF/A-3 container files. This enables creating long-term archival documents that carry the native documents or dynamic data in them.
"With this option, it is possible to for example store and manage related files, such as an Excel file with formulas or complete CAD drawings, together in one batch," explains Dietrich von Seggern, Business Development Manager software at callas software. "For companies and organizations, this offers the great advantage that all the files belonging to a certain project - whether PDF/A compliant or not – are available in a central database.”
Guaranteed PDF/A conversion
When archiving documents it is extremely important that all documents can be archived. To enable this, pdfaPilot 3 has a way to guarantee conversion to PDF/A. If possible the PDF file will be optimized and brought into line with the PDF/A standard by optimizing the internal PDF structure. If that fails however, the file can be converted into an image. The secret: the text is completely preserved and remains fully searchable in your archive.
Large environments: SharePoint and distributed processing
For users of SharePoint, the new version of callas pdfaPilot allows easier creation of PDF/A files. By integrating pdfaPilot 3 in the Microsoft solution, documents of various formats, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, Publisher, etc. can be converted directly from SharePoint to PDF/A.
Another major new feature is support for distributed processing. This enables pdfaPilot Server to be configured in such a way that it does load balancing between different systems in a very efficient and easy to maintain way.
Pricing and availability
callas pdfaPilot 3 is available immediately and comes in two versions.
• callas pdfaPilot Server 3 is on the market at 4.499 euro and offers both hot folder automation and closer integration through a CLI interface and a full SDK. It also provides multi-processor support for checking and fixing PDF/A files.
• callas pdfaPilot Desktop 3 is available for 379 euro and offers the broadest PDF/A support on the market in the easiest package. callas pdfaPilot Desktop works on single documents or – using its batch functionality – on complete folders at a time.
