In a pre-Drupa event held in Tel Aviv, Israel, this past March, HP introduced a score of new digital printing systems and technology modifications, including a new white ink and White Ink Kit plus Automatic Loader for its HP Scitex FB7500/7600 flatbeds, as well as the HP SmartStream Production Analyzer and the first 29-inch-format HP Indigo press.
North Plains, the provider of digital asset management (DAM), has announced that it has acquired Xinet, the workflow management software company. Both companies have singularly focused on addressing the challenges in rich media workflows.
Danaher Corporation – the Washington DC-based manufacturer that acquired Esko in 2011 – has agreed to acquire X-Rite, Inc. The transaction is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2012.
Marabu North America has introduced TexaJet DX-SHE (Sublimation-Hybrid-Epson) water-based sublimation inks. Suitable for both transfer and direct digital printing, TexaJet DX-SHE's applications include soft signage, flags and banners, sports apparel, fashion, and fine-art prints.
TexaJet inks are compatible with wide-format printers using Epson DX4 and DX5 printhead technologies. Ink features include light, wash, and perspiration fastness; intense colors and deep-rich blacks. A bulk system is available.
New from Sihl Digital Imaging is Sihl Mirano, a 9-mil rollup film featuring a “tri-lam” construction comprising photo paper front and back plus an opaque polymer center, combined with the company’s low-glare, satin SuperDry coating. Compatible with aqueous and latex inks, Mirano is water- and scratch-resistant for most short-term indoor applications, Sihl reports; it can also be laminated with pressure-sensitive or heat-activated films. In 36- and 42-in. widths.

The year was 1996 and PrismTech Graphics – a screen-printing operation in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada – was looking for a way to set itself apart from other print providers.

The Mob Museum, dedicated to the history of organized crime and law enforcement, debuted in Las Vegas this past February. To bring the exhibits to life, Vegas’s own Color Reflections output more than 800 prints using the shop’s HP Designjet Z6100 and then mounted the graphics onto Plexiglas. For a small portion of the work, an EFI Vutek GS3200 was utilized to print directly onto Plexiglas, glass, MDF, and metal. All custom cutting was done with the shop’s Multicam 3000 series CNC router.
Phoenix-based Image Craft has acquired Qube Visual, a Denver-based signage and graphics company. Image Craft plans to keep the Denver sales team as well as the majority of Qube Visual employees on staff.
