During the day, this Chrysler Jeep Wrangler MW3-edition graphic inspired by the popular videogame “Call of Duty: MW3,” appears to be just another Jeep billboard. At night, however, the graphic transforms into a war-zone scene using Light Tape electroluminescent (EL) panels by Electro-LuminX Lighting that selectively illuminate aspects of the design not visible in daylight hours. MetroMedia Technolgies created three glow-in-the-dark billboards in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.
Matan Digital Printers has launched the Barak 8Q, an 8-color UV hybrid printer. Available in 11.4- and 16-ft versions, the Barak 8Q features the company’s Parallel Drop Size technology that enables printing of 20- and 40-pL drops in the same printing pass to smooth images while also achieving ink coverage and density. It uses Barak UV low-odor pigmented inks and supports a wide range of environmental media (including PE). Inkset is CMYKcmkY).
Inca Digital Printers has unveiled the Inca Onset S40i flatbed, which supersedes the company’s Onset S40 machine. The new printer includes a variety of intelligent features that are designed to increase productivity as well as reliability. The Onset S40i utilizes 168 new-generation, user-replaceable printheads (28 per color) on a full-width print array, delivering a 28-picoliter drop size.

The Germany-based Heytex has established a US subsidiary in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The new Heytex Corp. will be responsible for the distribution of all Heytex products in the US, including sign textiles, fabrics and textiles for industrial uses, and textile solutions for other applications.
Mutoh has introduced its ValueJet 1638W, a 64-in. dye-sublimation printer. With staggered dual-head setup and 1440-nozzle printheads, the 4-color 1638W reaches production speeds up to 1012 sq ft/hr; top resolution is 1440 dpi. Using Mutoh water-based disperse dye inks, the printer can transfer onto flexible and ridged polyester materials and is ideal for production of soft signage, sportswear, home décor, flags and pennants, and more. Features include Interweave print technique, ValueJet Status Monitor, and automatic sheet-off after printing.
Roland DGA introduced the 64-in. VersaArt RE-640 printer. The new 4-color printer is the first VersaArt machine to incorporate the company’s new 8-channel, gold-plated printhead technology and features a dual CMYK mirroring to help prevent banding, variable droplet control, and Roland Intelligent Pass Control to further enhance image quality. Other features include: Eco-Sol Max inks (220 or 440 mL), an automatic maintenance printhead wiper, VersaWorks RIP software, integrated heating system, and more. A take-up system is optional.
EFI has introduced its EFI R3225 printer, a 126-in. roll-to-roll, entry-level production UV machine, and the first EFI printer that carries neither the company’s Vutek nor Rastek badges.
The 4-color (CMYK) R3225 provides eight-level, variable-drop grayscale heads and a top resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi. Speeds range from 939 sq ft/hr in Express mode (2-pass, 300 dpi) to 547 sq ft/hr in Signage Plus mode (4-pass, 600 dpi) and 138 sq ft/hr in Ultra Quality mode (18-pass, 900 dpi). It ships with a complete set of R Series inks, supplied in 3.25-liter bottles.
