Creative graphics on a Zamboni grab the attention of hockey fans.
Positive Marketing USA in Dallas took on the challenge of wrapping Zambonis for some big clients at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The arena is home to the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars as well as ice resurfacers that are used to clean and smooth the surface of a sheet of ice in the ice rink.
Two of the clients, Toyota and Volkswagen, wanted to wrap a Zamboni to look like one of their vehicle models in hopes it would draw the fans’ attentions during the Stars game, while IntelliCentrics sought a more traditional design. A Zamboni is a very uniquely built vehicle with many raised parts and pieces, so it requires special attention to detail.
“A Zamboni has pieces sticking out all over the body of the vehicle, so you can’t just measure the width and the height just like that. For example, you could have a piece of the Zamboni that sticks out 5 to 6 inches. You’d have to plan to wrap both above and below that piece,” says Greg Dekirmenjian of Positive Marketing. “So, if the height of the vehicle is 80 inches, you can’t just print that. You’re definitely going to be short by about a foot probably just because of all the tuck-ins. But also, depending on the graphic, you have to plan around those pieces. It really depends on the graphic that is being laid on top.”
To accomplish these wraps, the shop used an HP Latex 1500 printer on Avery MPI 1105 SuperCast Series Vinyl with an Avery DOL 1360Z Optically Clear overlaminate finish. The spotlight was on the Zambonis during the ice cleaning sessions of intermission and all clients were happy with their branding at the games.
