Packaging segment will lead the way, new report indicates.

Big Picture

A study produced by the Graphics of the Americas Expo & Conference (GOA) forecasts a positive state for the print industry in Latin America in 2013.

Based on statistics reported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the study reveals that the Latin America printing industry remained positive for most of the last decade, with a projected growth of 4 percent in 2013. According to the study, the packaging segment has the best outlook within the industry. The projected overall GDP in 2013 for Latin America and the Caribbean is 3.9 percent. National economies that are driving the growth include: Panama (7.5 percent, projected), Peru (5.8 percent), Chile (4.4 percent), Colombia (4.4 percent), Brazil (4 percent), and Mexico (3.5 percent).

The GOA study finds that the most dynamic sectors of the Latin American printing industry have modernized technologically, and have maintained a significant investment capacity despite fluctuations in growth in the last 10 years. A significant number of large companies, particularly in Mexico and Brazil, have acquired world-class status in their markets, the GOA reports. In addition, a segment of small and medium-sized enterprises has achieved sustained growth and now faces the challenge of retooling to increase its competitiveness in the context of global competition.

“The findings in this latest report are not at all surprising to us,” says George Ryan, GOA president. “The very reason for the specialization of our show is the resounding success the printing industry is experiencing in Latin American countries. Our exhibitors and attendees are reporting growth year over year, even when the economy is not at its peak. This study is very promising and invigorating for our audience and those who serve it.”

Produced by the Printing Association of Florida, the Graphics of the Americas event will take place February 21-23, 2013, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The annual event attracts more than 8100 print providers, designers, and creative professionals from North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
